Standing with Pride: Celebrating and Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community
![]() |
Every June, people across the UK and around the world celebrate Pride Month. It’s a time to honour the LGBTQ+ community — a time for love, equality, and visibility. But Pride isn’t just about parades and rainbow flags. It’s also about recognising the challenges many LGBTQ+ people still face and finding ways to support mental health, safety, and belonging for all.
As a counselling practice, we stand with Pride — and with anyone who wants to feel safe, heard, and accepted just as they are. What Pride Month Is All About
|
Why Pride Matters for Mental Health
Unfortunately, many LGBTQ+ people still face rejection, bullying, or invisibility. These experiences can lead to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or trauma.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Pride is also about creating safe spaces, building community, and promoting mental wellbeing.
Here’s how we can all help:
- Listen with empathy and without judgment
- Use inclusive language and ask for pronouns
- Challenge homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia when we see it
- Support LGBTQ+ mental health services
- Be a visible ally – not just in June, but all year round
